Introduction of Manganese ore

Manganese ore is a silver-gray metal with a pinkish tinge. It is a hard metallic element although it is quite brittle. Manganese ores are found in metamorphic rocks or sedimentary deposits. Pyrolusite is the main ore mineral for manganese.Manganese ore is alloyed with steel to improve hardness which is essential in the manufacturing of construction materials.

South Africa and the Ukraine hold over 80% of the world’s manganese ore reserves. Other important manganese deposits are in China, Australia, Brazil, Gabon, India, and Mexico. The U.S., Japan, and Western Europe are all nearly deficient in economically mineable manganese.

Manganease ore beneficiation process

For manganese ore, the beneficiation process cover gravity separation, magnetic separation and floatation separation, and the flow sheets for manganese mineral can not be only single flow sheet of gravity separation, magnetic separation or floatation separation, but also combination processing line of two or three separation. Here is some share about manganese beneficiation flow sheet.

1.  Manganese gravity beneficiation process

There is a big density difference between manganese mineral and waste gangue and manganese ore gravity beneficiation can be a great upgrading method to gain high grade manganese concentrate with its high recovery and good concentration efficiency. Gravity separation is the main way for separation of manganese oxide ore. The manganese gravity separation flow chart is showed in the following picture:

After two crushing, most of manganese granules have been liberated from the other gangue. A vibrating screen can be used to separate the mixture to be two size range of 0-8mm and 8-30mm. the 0-8mm ore will go for 2LTC6109/8T jig machine for jigging concentration while 8-30mm ore will go for AM30 jig machine for coarse ore jigging separation. And finally high-grade concentrate of 0-8mm and 8-30mm can be gained separately.

2.Manganese magnetic separation beneficiaiton process

Manganese ore is kind of weak magnetic mineral and high gauss intensity magnetic separator of +14000Gauss can help to gain effective separation of manganese. The following manganese magnetic separation processing line makes use of magnetism difference to get high grade manganese concentrate:

Two phases of crushing job makes liberation of manganese granules from impurities. A vibration screen will be used to screen the ore of +5mm and put it back to the crushing while the -5mm minerals will go for high intensity magnetic separator for magnetic separation and finally, manganese concentrate of 0-5mm can b gained.This magnetic separation is usually adopted for manganese carbonate ore and used in beneficiation of manganese oxide and manganese carbonate in area of no water or water deficient.

3.Manganese floatation separation beneficiaiton process

For manganese ore, floatation separation is mainly used for manganese carbonate and multi-metal manganese ore with its large investment and high operation cost and pollution to environment. And intensity magnetic separation will take place of floatation separation gradually.
